Heyhey! How are you?
The past two weeks have been kinda weird and tiring but the even stranger thing is, everywhere I look, friends and family both on and off social media seem to be having equally exhausting weeks. There’s a general sense of everyone either burning out or suspended in a weird state of limbo where they try to figure out where they are in life.
I hope your fortnight has gone better! But if it hasn’t and you’ve been struggling or are still struggling, this space is always free if you need to vent or rant about anything. Either way, you’re doing great! YOU GOT THIS ❤❤❤
I’ve been stuck in a kdrama drought of sorts, recently. But it seems the drought has ended because omg, all the dramas that started this week!
Here’s a quick look at 3 dramas I’m excited about!
Hometown Cha Cha Cha (In the middle of this)
Okay, technically, this is not new-new but how can I not include Shin Min Ah’s comeback drama~~~ I know everyone else is watching this for Kim Seon Ho but I couldn’t have been the only one screaming ‘unnie!!!!’ at the screen when Shin made her first appearance as Yoon Hye Jin. Shin’s veteran drama skillzzzz shine as she manages to toe the line between frustrating and endearing as a somewhat uppity dentist who moves to a seaside village where she has to contend with warmth and humanity, a far cry from the cold and competitive Seoul city vibes she’s used to. Life is made easier, of course, with her OTP, Hong Doo Shik (Kim), a local handyman who does everything for everyone in town while his own motivations and desires remain…satisfyingly undisclosed for the time being.
The overall vibe of the show is just as the stills promise - fun, bright, very very relaxing. I’m loving these weekly excursions to a seaside town, if I’m being honest. Been feeling quite suffocated lately in my own city and I will grab any chance to head off to the beach, even if it’s just on screen ahah. Also, the OTP has lotsa chemistries muahahahaha. I’m likely to write a full post/review on the show once it’s done so if you’re watching this too, let me know what you think too! :)
One The Woman (Just started!)
Ahhhhh! Honey Lee plays TWO ROLES in this. Look, even if there weren’t romance involved, you know I’d be watching this. After playing a corrupt prosecutor in The Fiery Priest (which I really ought to rewatch), she plays a badass but, again, corrupt prosecutor, Jo Yoon Joo, AND a chaebol heiress, Kang Mi Na, who’s married to a trash guy and lives with his trash family. What happens is Yoon Jo gets involved in a car accident but everyone mistakes her for the Mi Na. So Yoon Jo wakes up with 0 memory of who she is (convenient plot device but I ain’t complaining) and believes everyone when they tell her she’s Mi Na. But their personalities are so wildly different that the trash husband/in-laws are constantly shocked at the things Yoon Jo says.
Of course, there’s an OTP. Lee Sang Yoon plays Han Seung Wook, Mi Na’s first love. Oh no, it’s more like Mi Na is his first love and he comes back to visit her, only to realise she is not Mi Na at all.
Only two episodes are out so far, but come on, it’s Lee Sang Yoon. I love him in these cute romance shows. Although this show isn’t cute-cute like Twenty Again, he and Honey Lee are hilarious on screen and I cannot wait to watch them figure this out together (cos where DID Mi Na go?? There’s also an overarching storyline about corruption) and fall in love in the process ahahah. I’m actually more excited about this than Hometown, not sure why. But again, if you’re watching this, let me know what you think!
Dalri and Gamjatang (About to start!)
This one, I’ve not started watching yet but this cast is good! Park Gyu Young was recently in The Devil Judge (akma pansaaaaaaaa!) and I’m glad to see her headlining a new show. She plays a chaebol, Kim Dal Li, who is also a director of an art museum. Kim Min Jae is the male lead, playing Jim Moo Hak, and from the teaser, he seems to be a greasy/manipulative director of his own business. Gamjatang refers to pork stew so I’m speculating that Moo Hak might be running a food business of some kind? The poster promises quirky fun and with Park’s recent track record and Kim’s propensity to bring me to tears whether he’s playing a Joseon-era matchmaker or a piano prodigy, I’m looking forward to watching the first two episodes next week when work has calmed down~~
That’s all from me for today, folks! Hope you’re keeping well and staying safe. See you in two weeks 🤎🤎🤎
